D4PHP: I don't think that was what Brian had in mind when making this post! :)

Still, considering the ridiculous amount of trial time CG is setting on it, some people may actually be interested on your link to give it a more thorough test drive...

"I always thought the casual copier hurt the industry more"

Well now that's an intersting thought. Everyone agrees that that's who is affected and not the mass pirate. But I hadn't heard of someone making this proposal. It has some worth, but you must also remember that the mass copying pirate is now often probably selling his copies as "legit" or at least legit enough for the causual copier to rationalize it.

Rationalizing probably hurts the industry the most. It's like buying an OEM copy of an OS with a Mouse or CPU fan. It's now quite legit and we all know it. But if we can rationalize it...

Registration / Activation of software is mostly to root out the "casual copier" rather than the pirates, who will always find a way to circumvent software protection.

I always thought the casual copier hurt the industry more, because people who use pirated software would most likely never have bought the software, whereas the casual copier's end users would - think Office 2000!

A lot of them are probably fake. But I'm sure some are real. It just goes to show that 'activation' is a giant waste of time. It doesnt prevent piracy - it only makes trouble for legitimate owners of the software, and discourages potential customers by treating them like potential criminals.

Why not do the same search for 'Delphi for Ruby' or 'Delphi for Forth' I would guess you would get similar hits for that search if you search in the same place. 8)

Actually, there is BDS 2006 there, but Delphi/BDS is not on the pirate's most wanted lists so I'd guess it will be a few months before Delphi 2007 gets cracked/distributed... Not that I'm interested in it as I already have my own legitimate copy! :)

Please be aware that some sites will now create their own files dependent on your search string, ie, search for "golden apples" and you'll probably find the same sized files.

As for Pirate versions of Delphi, the last "scene" release was Delphi 2005 afaik - so far there are no scene pirated versions of Delphi 2007 or Delphi for PHP!
